Literature Text

They stood on the edge of the world, looking out at the expanse of colourful everything which filled the space beyond. They could see other worlds floating just within sight, but those were not their destination.
"Are you sure?" He asked his mate, feathers ruffled.
His mate gently ran a beak through the green feathers on his head, smoothing them and soothing him.
"Lover I am sure, neither of us can be happy on these island worlds, Tristan."
"We found a home here though Elijah, a herd which doesn't throw us out for what we are." Tristan pawed at the ground with a back hoof, "Even if..."
"Even if they openly show disgust or pity because we love unconventionally." Elijah shook his head and then nestled it into Tristan's feathers
"I know..." Tristan said, the fear becoming ever clearer in his voice.
Elijah raised his head to look at Tristan earnestly, "If you don't want to, I will stay here, for you."
"No for you I will be brave." Tristan said, "We will make our way into the beyond."
"We will find a place where we belong."
They checked the packs strung across their backs with nimble fore-claws, using the opportunity to stroke and comfort one another. They never refused the opportunity to bury themselves in each other's bright green wool and feathers. The packs were all good, loaded with all they hoped they would need for the journey ahead. But when the journey was into the unknown who could know what was needed?
"Onward into the unknown," Elijah said.
"With loved ones by our sides for ever more." Tristan added.
The touched the red spots on their foreheads together for a brief moment, then looked out to the colourful nothingness beyond. Together they stretched their broad wings and launched themselves from the edge of their world. Into a new world, a world of endless possibilities. Into Aetheria.
One of the short stories from the original NaNoWriMo project, decided to write it now. I hope you like it.
